Hi! Happy Monday, everyone!!
I pray that you all had a really great week last week, and that you've managed to survive the deluge that we received (if you live in KY or TN, that is!).
I was a bit worried about last week, as I attended two events that are not normally part of a 'regular' week.
The first was our Management Conference (I went down only for Wednesday), which was held in Bowling Green, KY this year. I didn't do to badly with lunch, eating a rather large green salad, & 1/2 a sandwich with lean roast beef & mustard, along with some fruit chunks for dessert (not bad considering that there were was a luscious looking carrot cake for dessert). Later, though, I did break down, because they served huge soft cookies (made mine oatmeal-raisin), of which I partook, and soft drinks (had my first 'real' Coke in a couple of weeks). YUM!!!
Then on Friday I attended the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs with my friend, Judy.
For those of you who don't know what the Kentucky Oaks race is, it is held the day before the Kentucky Derby, and is the race for the fillies (& rather than a blanket of roses, the blanket is made of 'Lilies for the Fillies').
Anyhow, this was the second year for the Pink Out event, which benefits the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research. My friend, Judy, has been cancer free for only three months. There was a parade around the track for the survivors and their guest (I flaked out on Judy because of the heat). We met one lady that was a 37 year breast cancer survivor (before there was even chemo & radiation therapy available), and another lady that was 81 years old, but looked to be in her mid 50's.
There was even one fella in the bunch, so, guys, don't think that this can't happen to you!!! You should be checking right along side of your female friends & relatives!! Breast cancer in a fella is almost always fatal because men aren't taught to check regularly like women are, so it's usually discovered when it's too far advance for successful treatment. So, fellas, check for lumps & bumps just like the women do!!! It's important!
Okay, now back on track (no pun intended) to the reason that I'm writing.
In spite of the events of last week (including Friday when I also had a 'regular' Coke, along with 6 White Castles & fries, plus to large freshly squeezed lemonades at the track), I did well. On the days that there were no special things happening, I tended to watch a little more closely, and I was amazed.
In spite of the splurges, I managed to lose last week!
This morning when I got on the scales, I almost fainted, then wanted to shout for joy!!!
I weighed 257.8, for a total loss of 17 pounds even since March 28, 2010!!!
YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!
Well, gotta get back to work....break time is now over!
Love to you all.....more next week!!

Another Week Bites the Dust!
Well another week has come & gone, both with and without struggles.
I did pretty well this week, even considering that Tuesday was our Employee Appreciation Luncheon which was held at Buca di Beppo's this year.
If you've never been to 'Buca's' let me tell you that it's an incredible place to eat, but don't go alone! Go in a group of at least four or more! Their food is served family style, and a small serves two to three people depending upon their appetites.
We were served freshly baked bread, followed by two types of salad (regular and Caesar), then spaghetti w/ meat sauce, fettucini alfredo and chicken parmesan, along with baskets of garlic bread. Mmmmmmm...yum! To top off all of that, we had two different types of dessert (cheesecake with strawberry sauce and pistachios and an ooey gooey chocolate cake).
I at a lot of salad first, so I was able to take smaller portions of the entrees served and, yes, I had dessert (but only very small pieces of each). The chocolate cake was super rich & the cheesecake was superb!!!
I tried to be really good the rest of the week, but Friday I gave in & stopped at Sonic for a SuperSonic cheeseburger w/ tots (they were free, so how could I say no?) and a chocolate milk shake.
I think that I would probably have lost more, but I gave in to the crave.
All in all, though, it wasn't a bad week (food-wise).
I did have a few days of very bluesy moods, though. I really missed Randy this week, as this time last year was his first bout with bronchitis, the death of one of the cats (Angel had a heart attack & died in my arms the night before the KY Derby, which is this coming Saturday) followed by the death of one of our dogs (Bebe, the Boston Terrier) two weeks later. As you can see, last year was not a good year in our house.
But enough of gloom.....it's gloomy enough outside my window today!!
My weight this morning was 262.0, for a total loss of 12.8 pounds since March 28, 2010.
YIPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Later, gators....gotta get back to work, as break time is now over. I'll write more next week.

Things are looking up (or down)
Hi! I don't have a lot of time to write, but just wanted to take a few minutes to let you know what last week was like.
As I said before, it definitely doesn't take the human body long to get used to making healthier choices, so this week I tried to be really good.
However, on Friday, I did decide to splurge a bit, so I went to Taco Bell for dinner (or rather went through the drive-thru). I did eat more than I should have, but no where near what I usually order, and it didn't hurt me as badly as my fried foods last week.
I did discover something about Taco Bell though that probably wasn't a good thing for me to know. They now offer the Frutista Freezes in a 'regular' and a 'large'! I opted for the large because I'd been really watching what I was doing the rest of the week.
I must also say that this eating healthier stuff is already having an effect on the amount of medicine that I'm taking. I've already been able to cut my diabetes medicine to between 1/2 and 1/4 of what I was taking when I started! Yippee!!!!!!!
Now for the moment of truth........... (drum roll, please)
This morning I weighed 263.4 pounds, for a total weight loss of 11.4 pounds since I started this journey (at this rate, I wonder how much I will have lost by the time my vacation gets here the first week of September.......)
Have a glorious week......celebrate God's love for you!!

ugh
Well, I was right.....not good.....I gained.
My weight this morning was 270.8, so I gained almost 2 pounds.
This week will be better.
But here I am obsessing about the weight thing, when the goal is really to make healthy choices, which I obviously did not do at the end of the week.
But this is a new day, so I can make better choices today.

just hi
Just wanted to drop in & say hi before going off to bed.
This week has been so-so....thought I was doing really well, but at the end of the week I sort of fell apart.
I have learned that it takes very little time for the body to get used to foods that are good for you.
I stopped on the way home at Moby Dick's (fried seafood in case you haven't guessed). I was craving fish, so I ordered a fish sandwich, then saw shrimp & ordered a small side of that. Both came with a hush puppy & the fish also came with 2 pieces of rye bread.
I ate it all (silly me), then paid for it the rest of the night & all day Saturday. It was not food poisoning, but it was fried food after almost two whole weeks of eating healthy foods!
I was absolutely miserable, & because I was upset with myself, I ate two apple blossoms on Saturday (being a glutton for punishment, I guess, along with being just a glutton).
I expect that this will set me back & that there will be no loss.
Today was better, although I did eat too much.
Tried a new recipe, but made the mistake of not putting everything away once I made my plate.
Well, tomorrow is a new day and the beginning of a new week. I'll just have to make up my mind that this was just a minor lapse & that next week will get better.
Oh, & I forgot to mention the Coke & candy bar to go with the fish...no wonder I felt bad.
I wonder if I will have fewer cravings as I eat healthier for a longer period of time. I'm actually surprised that I made it through two weeks before falling (jumping) head first into bad food!!!
Only time will tell.
Tomorrow's post will probably just be my weight (I may not feel like writing any more, as I may be too busy beating myself up).

Day 8 - beginning of week 2
Good morning, everyone! Actually, I'm already well into my day.
For a lot of you out there, this is Spring Break Week but, alas, not so for me.
Anyhow, last week wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined that it would be. I think that purging the house helped.
Before I let you know how much, yes, I did lose last week, and didn't suffer in the process.
A typical day is 1 - 1 1/2 C. any Special K (w/ 1/4 C. dried blueberries if it's just plain K) & 1 C. 1% milk for breakfast, a piece of fruit or 6 oz. fruity yogurt at break @ work, then a small TV dinner (either turkey & stuffing from Banquet or a Healthy Choice, Michelina, or Smart Ones small entree) plus another piece of fruit, then either yogurt or fruit for afternoon snack about 3:30, and a healthy dinner (piece of baked or broiled meat, usually, with a romaine & tomato salad w/croutons, plus a big helping of veggies and sometimes stuffing, pasta, bread or a potato).
If I get hungry before bed, then I have another snack based upon what my sugar level is, but usually some baby carrots & another piece of fruit or a yogurt cup.
Before you ask, no, I don't eat yogurt all day. I have one, sometimes 2, depending on whether or not I have milk with dinner. I just try to get at least 3 servings of dairy.
I don't really think about the food part a lot, just try to make sure that my carbs are fairly low, and that I eat a lot of veggies (not much corn though).
If I get a craving for something, I eat a little right away so that it doesn't turn into a binge once I finally get it.
The 100 calorie snack box stayed sealed until Friday. It was an official holiday for work, so I slept in a bit & ate a late breakfast, so didn't want to eat lunch because I knew my dad & Bev were coming through town on their way north and we'd probably go eat somewhere.
We went to a little Italian place I've discovered, and I had chicken carbonara, but only ate half so that I could have dessert (their tiramisu is just amazing).
I was extra good on Saturday to make up for it, but didn't deprive myself, which I'm beginning to think is the key to all of this.....eat well, splurge a little every now & then, don't starve!!!
So.....now that I've said all of that, the total for the week is (drum roll, please) 6.2 pounds gone!!!
I weighed 268.6 dressed for work (street clothes, shoes, keys & cell in pocket).
WOO HOO!!!!!!!!
Have a great week every one.....I'll be back next week.

The 'real' Day 1
Okay, so I didn't plan on blogging quite so soon, but here's the deal.
Yesterday's intake may have sabotaged (but not discouraged) me already (maybe applying a little bit of the pressed but not crushed theory here).
This morning I weighed before running out the door.
I was 274.8 in all my clothes & shoes.
Do you reckon that there's that much difference between shorts & a t-shirt and long pants (fairly heavy knit), a long sleeved knit shirt, socks & additional underthings?
Oh, but wait!!! I had breakfast, too, so maybe it wasn't all from yesterday (hoping)!!
Breakfast this morning was good (not great, but good), and satisfying..... 1 3/4 c. Special K w/ dried blueberries (thanks, Mom! They're great in place of raisins!), 1 c. 2% milk (have a bit less than 1/2 gallon to finish before going to 1%)....farmed a bit while eating it....
I decided that breakfast is probably going to be necessary so that I'm not so hungry that I'm ready to chew the finish off of my office furniture by lunchtime.
Goal today......elliptical time while after I get home, while dinner is in the microwave....planning on pot roast (I think it's Banquet brand and it comes in a bag, and is pretty good; well worth it for me since there's no one else to cook for).
Anyhow, I'm off, and I'm getting a lot of encouragement! A bit of prayer wouldn't hurt either!
love, carol
